Engineering & Certification

Residential and Commercial windows and doors are “performance-driven” products.  The performance is built upon the system’s ability to resist air infiltration, water penetration, and lateral force (structural), as well as manage thermal conductivity challenges presented by ambient temperature variation and the effect of sunlight. The performance of windows and doors is a result of engineering through design and material selection allowing for uniform recreation on the manufacturing floor.

Standardized testing establishes the product’s performance metrics and independent third-party verification of tested performance is required for market acceptance of these product representations.  Product certification pursuant to the North American Fenestration Standard (NAFS) and to the requirements of the National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC) is fundamental to success and may be required by applicable building codes. Trends in composite and combination products present substantive challenges demanding attention, particularly as testing and labeling standards evolve.

Competent engineering and meticulous satisfaction of testing and certification requirements are the foundation for a successful product launch. A miscue can cause a problem which may support later product defect and misrepresentation claims.
